Conservation Area And Habitat Ponds
The meadows consists of native wildflowers and grasses which provide a habitat and protection for a number of species. Between March-October the meadows is used as grazing pasture as part of the conservation scheme. Throughout the year two paths are cut and maintained to allow access to the woodland through the gates at the far end of the field. The woodland however, is privately owned.
We request that visitors are mindful of the wildlife and stick to the marked paths at all times leading to Elsea Park meadow and in the woodlands. Please keep your dogs on a lead and please leave the fruits and berries for nature to consume.
Our three ponds and the surrounding area have become a habitat for a variety of animals. Aside from water-residing birds such as wild ducks and moorhens, the pond also attracts insects such as dragonflies and water beetles. Tadpoles are often found underneath the bridge in springtime and a short time later young frogs can be seen climbing the sloped slabs out of the water.
The Trust has built a Pond dipping platform located at the habitat ponds, for all ages to enjoy. This is your chance to get closer to nature and discover many different species living in the ponds. This is a wonderful activity and very educational with lots of benefits.
New residents on Elsea Park are offered a complimentary bird box to try and encourage wildlife back to the area.
